Droog-Mongers Perform Some 'Ultraviolence' in Bend...and ride bikes...

Well, well, well...that was a fun packed weekend for sure.  The Cross Crusade returned to the Deschutes Brewery/Old Mill District in Bend, OR for two days of wicked fun racing and 'hallo-weening'.

First of all let me say a huge thank you to my parents (Mike and Connie) and Bill's parents for playing hosts and cheering throughout the weekend.  Their contributions made this weekend awesome!

Saturday morning provided us with a nice surprise: Alissa decided to race the beginner mens race.  She did quite well to keep her kit clean and not wreck her bike on this sandy, squirrely course.  As she made her way around the course she gained experience and confidence enough to ride certain sections that she had ran-up on early laps.

Two others that provided a massive contribution this weekend were Kyle and Gina.  They woke-up super early on Saturday morning to set-up Kyle's mobile photo studio.  Even though Kyle felt like most BMCC racers were pissy subjects during the day (mostly me and Abram) I am sure the final results will not show aggro, pissy racers.  Thanks K&G!

Bill and Paul held down our Men's C category.  Bill's number postioned him near the front and he made the most of that by fighting off approaching racers and staying upright on his bike.  His hardwork and determination paid off with a nice 7th place finish.  His best of the season.  Well done! Somehow Paul was able to ride the entire course on 26" touring tires.  Amazing!  That someone could actually make it around the course with those tires.  Sweet work.

Our Master C field included Kyle S, Marc and myself.  We all started off with good intentions but by the time the race was over Marc and I were worse for wear; while Kyle wore a smile.  He enjoyed the course so much that it brought back memories of riding Phil's Trail.

Abram rolled next in the Master Bs and it sounded like he had as much fun as Marc and I...I need to confirm this.  The Lady Mongers were next up and we had Julie 'the Read' Deal, Jericho, and Steph.  These Lady Mongers tore up the 'boneyard' portion of the course and  even though Steph looks like she is cheering for us they gave it there all and had fun doing it.

Nick and Andrew rode for the Mongers in the B race and by this time our cheering was loud!.  I am sorry for bringing a keg of tasty beer that was 8.3% ABV...by the time this race came on I was fired up!  Nick had a mechanical issue but Andrew raced well and he finished in good style.

All in all the Mongers rolled twelve riders on Saturday.  A great representation for us in central Oregon.

BMCCs home on the road...Marc holding down the fort.

We all went to our respctful abodes and ate some tasty dinners.  Some of us returned to the Deschutes property for the Cyclesdale Championship of the Universe.  Compared to the temperatues during the day the nighttime temps were very nice for hanging outside.

Sunday at the Cross Crusade Halloween weekend is all about costumes first and then racing/riding second.  Our costumes this year were the Ultra-violent Droogs from the movie A Clockwork Orange.

Everyone got into the spirit.  We even had a baby-Droog show us, 'some nasty!'  During the afternoon open ride all Droogs took a lap around the open couse and commited some Ultra-violence on an unspecting cross fan, sorry Paul.

Lady Droog Mongers....show me your nastiness!

Even Bill's mom got in the mix by throttling Steph as she rode by during her race.  Nice bit of Ultra-violence Mrs. Klingler!!!

Even the jack-o-lanterns were scared of our Droog costumes.  It was a great weekend   Note for the future: No kegs who's contents exceed 5.5 ABV...Right, right, right!!!
