Well last Monday Bill, Stroup and I flew home from a super fast paced weekend of bourbon, blues, bikes, baseball bats, bad ass CX racers, blustery weather and more. Louisville, KY is situated on the Ohio River and is one of the only cities in the country with a year round CX park...what's up PDX? That permanent venue allowed L'ville to attract the UCI CX World Championships which had never been held outside of Europe. Back in November Bill, Stroup and I hatched a plan to travel to the self-proclaimed, "Bourbon, Horses (Bikes), and History," region of Kentucky to take it all in...and take it all in we did.
Thursday - PDX to IND drive southeast to L'ville in a snow storm, meet Belgian Elite Men, Bill wins arm wrestling battle for signed Belgian jersey, bar hop on Bardstown Road, and unimpressed by local micro-brews.
Friday - Sleep-in, Waffle House, Maker's Mark distillery tour, notified about all races moved to Saturday, bourbon sampler at Old Talbott's in Bardstown, more micro-brew sampling (still not happy), and to bed early.
Saturday - predawn wake-up, 3 inches of snow on the ground, arrive in venue by 9am. First race 945. Meet lost of CX folks from all over North America and Europe. Cheer until I basically lose my voice. Nice victories: Vos and Nys!!! Jimmy Johns x 2. Skip the foam party cause there is not really any foam.. Stevie Ray's blues club, awesome band!!! Jimmy Johns, again?
Sunday - sleep-in, Louisville Slugger factory tour, meet ZMac, Tim Johnson, Simon Zahner, and JPow...fun Super Bowl.
Monday - homeward bound.
I have put together a little movie to share my experience with you, it will be posted separately. There are a total of 3 expletives so watch out for the lil ones. Next year the World Championship is going to be Hogerheide (30 miles from Amsterdam) anyone interested?
